The Great Lakes Interagency Task Force was established yesterday by executive order. Headed by former EPA administrator Mike Leavitt, the task force will oversee and coordinate federal, state, and local efforts to preserve and improve the lakes. The group is also charged with submitting a report to the president in March, even though this would be the ninth study the government has commissioned on the Great Lakes in the last three years. Representatives Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill., 5th district) and Mark Kirk (R-Ill., 10th district) are asking for $4 billion in block grants to fund restoration and environmental work.
Yeah, the EPA has a way ghetto website. For fancier info on the Great Lizzakes, check out the Great Lakes Information Network.
