Bikes Are Cool

By Margaret Lyons in News on May 24, 2004 2:30PM

Yesterday kicked off Andersonville Bike Week. If you ride your bike to the northeast corner of Clark and Berwyn, you get a free water bottle and raffle ticket. If you commute via bike to work, you can get free breakfast, too. All week long, Andersonville and Edgewater businesses are sponsoring fitness and wellness programs including hand reflexology, lectures about safety for urban bike riders, bike tours, spinning classes, and bike maintenance clinics.
Bike the Drive; Photo: Chicago Bike FederationRegister now to Bike the Drive next Sunday for either a 15-mile or 30-mile trek on Lake Shore Drive. It costs $35, and no one will be allowed to begin after 9 a.m.; organizers suggest that beginners start their 30-mile ride no later than 5:30 a.m. So, yay for exercise that’s expensive and early in the morning! Just kidding. Bike the Drive is part of Bike Chicago, now in its 14th year.
Not enough bike for your buck? Head over to Handlebar, the oh-so-tasty cycle-themed Wicker Park joint. It’s veggie friendly, and more importantly, insanely cheap— all dinners are under $10.
And finally in bike-related news, President Bush fell off his bike Saturday, which Chicagoist will take as a tribute to the pilot episode of The West Wing.
