Pimp My Ride

Driving an SUV in Chicago just got a little more expensive. Vehicle stickers, which cost $75 for all other cars, are now $90 for some SUVs and vans. If your car has a curb weight of over 4,500 pounds, it's time for you to shell out. The list of fatty rides includes: Cadillac Escalades; Chevy Suburbans; Ford Expeditions; both Hummers; Mercedes G, M, and ML Classes; Porsche Cayennes; VW Eurovans and Touaregs; and a bunch of others. The Rolls-Royce Phantom made the list, too, but it's not an SUV or a van. It's just a really, really heavy car. Chicago drivers must display their sticker by July 15, so definitely get on that right now.
So between high gas prices, and now the extra couple of bucks, maybe that hulking beast in the driveway is looking a little less alluring. Better jump on the CTA. Er, Bike Week? Just lace up the kicks and hit the sidewalks.
