This week the Northwestern University School of Law debuted a website called "Homicide in Chicago 1870 - 1930". The site includes paperwork, police reports, images, books, crime commission reports, and video commentary on 11,000 Chicago murders, stretching in time from the Chicago Fire until the Depression. The director of the project, criminal defense attorney Leigh B. Bienen, said that other cities like London and New York have homicide records, but that there is nothing as complete as this for any other city as Chicago.
One of Chicagoist's favorite sections on the site covers the murder of Robert Franks, who was 13 when he was murdered by two wealthy U of C students, Richard Loeb and Nathan Leopold. There is so much information available it will make your head spin!
