Blue Light Speeding Special

RAPD_Patch.jpgSun-Times columnist Mary Laney has been getting a lot of inches out of a speeding ticket she got in Racine, WI while driving up I-94 to Wisconsin. She contends that she wasn't speeding, and the subsequent towing of her car was entirely unwarranted. It's just one more story about Cheesehead police officers taking advantage of Illinois drivers that don't know the local law, and don't have time to appear in court. But Laney did, got the charges removed, but still ended up paying almost $200 for her trouble.

While the story makes Wisconsin police sound like small town cops that hide behind bushes, waiting for out-of-state rubes, it's an old story for folks that drive up to Wisconsin on a regular basis. Chicagoist has long known I-94 to be a speed trap, and I-90 to be a wide open cruise. We couldn't find any I-94 listing on the Speed Trap Exchange but we know they're out there.
