Make Your Own Frushi

2004.06.15.orange.jpgOne of Chicagoist’s favorite spots for brunch is Orange, the ever tasty and jumpin’ Belmont joint. Tonight, Orange’s executive chef Alex Gomez (he's also executive chef at the Bucktown bar/restaurant/wifi spot Darwin’s) will teach the masses how to whip up their own versions of French toast kabobs, green eggs and ham, and our fav, the adorable fruit sushi frushi. Chicagoist is a huge fan of Orange's perky atmosphere and unusual juices, plus their menu is full of sarcastic jokes and funny stories. Gush? Gush. For a mere $40, you can rub elbows with him and learn some tricks of the trade all while benefiting an extremely worthy cause, Inspiration Corporation.
Inspiration Corporation oversees Inspiration Cafe and The Living Room Cafe, in Uptown and Woodlawn respectively, where volunteers serve restaurant-style meals to homeless guests. Inspiration provides case management, housing, job training, and wellness services to guests that qualify for its programs. To qualify, guests must be drug- and alcohol-free for 30 days, with no recent history of violence, and must have a willingness to work towards exiting homelessness.
