If Your Friends Slip In, Don't Jump In

Swimming PoolRecently there have been two reports of Chicagoans slipping into water and their companions trying to save them and dying. In the first instance some little kids were playing around a muck-filled pool. A 4-year-old girl fell in. Her 6-year-old companion, Donny, went in after her to rescue her. The girl was able to get out and call for help, but by the time rescue workers arrived Donny was unconscious. A week later he passed away. The second occurance happened when 4 Chicagoans died died at a Texas water park. Again, a little girl slipped into deep pool. Her father, along with two other children, jumped into save her and they all ended up drowning. Having spent our summers growing up in wave pools in Wisconsin Dells, this report especially scares the bejesus out of us.

Chicagoist finds both accidents to be very sad, but realizes there are some lessons to be learned:

1. Keep your little girls away from pools!
2. If your friends fall into a pool you should think twice about jumping in if you can't swim.
3. Take swimming lessons.
4. Learn CPR.
