Saturday was a beautiful day and Chicagoist had a few friends in from out of town so we all headed down to Grant Park for Taste of Chicago, which claims to be the world's largest food and free music festival. Wow, what a bunch of gluttons we were!!! Tickets were $7 for 11 tickets and the three of us each bought $21 worth of tickets. .. what's that? 99 tickets? At each of the festival's 70 restaurant booths there were several food items to choose from that ranged in price from 2 - 9 tickets. Pooling our tickets together and sharing everything we bought we were able to consume all of the following:
» Breaded steak sandwich from Ricobene's
» Coconut shrimp from Chicago Joe's
» Chili from Chicago Joe's
» Cheeseburger from Billy Goat Tavern
» BBQ ribs from Robinson's #1 Ribs
» Cheesecake from Eli's Cheesecake
» Hotdog from Gold Coast Dogs
» Italian beef from Buona Beef
» Cinnamon roll from Ann Sather
» Pizza from Lou Malnati's Pizzeria
» Turtle soup from Stanley's Kitchen & Tap
» Caramel apple sundae from Gertie's Ice Cream
» Key lime pie from JR Dessert Bakery
» Fried dough from Volare
» Plantain chips with garlic sauce from Sabor Latino
» Gatorade
» 2 Bud Lights
Midway through this feeding frenzy we had to stop and take a rest in the grassy shade near Buckingham Fountain. Our favorite foods of the day were the coconut shrimp, the hotdog, the italian beef and the plantains. The turtle soup and the breaded steak were our least favorites. They were both a bit on the bland side. Chicagoist has tentative plans to go back to the festival this week with coworkers, but we're thinking one time is probably enough to tide us over.. at least until next year!
