It's Real: Ditka For Senate

ditka.jpgBelieve it or not, there are some folks out there that would like to see Mike Ditka elected as our next Illinois Senator. The Daily Southtown reports today that Tom Pence of Oswego, a Kendall County GOP committeeman, is leading an effort to get 10,000 signatures to put up Mike Ditka as the Republican State Party Chair, and now there's talk of him going for the Senate spot too.

Da Coach has been "active" with the Republican Party, according to his supporters. A search of Illinois State campaign finance records only shows a single contribution of $5,000 lately, however, and in the past four years, he's only made federal campaign contributions totalling $1,500 to President George W. Bush. Not chump change, but still not the mark of an active Republican donor. Worse yet, a search of Chicago's voter registration records as of the March Primary Election does not show him to be registered -- at least in Chicago where he claimed to reside on his contribution records.
