A Chicago-area man on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted list was captured in Mexico last Thursday after a Mexican viewer saw him on the TV show America's Most Wanted (AMW). Michael Alfonso allegedly stalked and killed not one, but two of his former girlfriends. The viewer called in to AMW who then contacted the U.S. Embassy. Alfonso was captured and given to US authorities who flew him to Houston. He is staying there until he can be sent back to Illinois.
Alfonso, who is also a registered sex offender in Illinois, is accused of shooting his former girlfriend in 1992, changing his name, then shooting another former girlfriend in 2001. He is quoted on the AMW website as saying that people who were on AMW were "stupid" because they always got caught. Authorities in Kendall and DuPage counties said Friday they are planning to seek the death penalty.
For turning Alfonso in, the AMW tipster will receive $50,000. That's a lot of dough. Chicagoist thinks maybe we should start watching the show just in case we happen to recognize a wanted felon on the street!
