Chicagoan Sues Chanel

ChanelGold Coast stockbroker Barbara Kaplan, is suing Chanel for breach of contract and fraud, charging that the pricey clothing that she purchased were inferior products.

Kaplan travelled to Paris last year to attend Chanel's spring fashion show. At that time she spent $105,000 on clothing off the rack, jewelry, and accessories. She also made a $55,000 deposit on custom wool suits. It is reported that she spent $40k on one Chanel flower watch.

A month later, Kaplan flew to New York for a fitting session and was so dissatisfied with the clothing, saying they were ill-fitting and made with low-grade materials, that she canceled her order and attempted to return the merchandise. Chanel offered to use the deposited money to make her new clothing from the fall 2003 line, but Kaplan wasn't invited to the show and Chanel never followed up on the pledge. By June 2003, Kapalan had returned or attempted to return all or most of the merchandise she purchased leaving her without any of the clothing and Chanel refusing to refund her money.

Chicagoist finds it ridiculous to spend more than a lot of people make in a year just on one watch... but we can somewhat relate. We get pissed off if H&M won't give us our money back for that ill-fitting, cheaply made halter top we bought on a whim for $12.99, let alone the $200k we plan to spend on our spring wardrobe once we find that sugardaddy of our dreams!
