Hello, Weekend Date

2004_07_22.dupage.gifWe don’t know about you, but by this time on a Thursday, we are already itching for the weekend. We’re itching for the weekend this time on a Monday, too, but we’re lazy bums. This weekend is supposed to be pretty temperate (high 70s), which is the perfect excuse to head to the DuPage County Fair.

Yes, the fair started yesterday, and we’ve all already missed some good stuff. But fear not, for more county fair delight awaits us through Sunday. We’re all over:
• 4-H Mini Dog Show: Friday, 6 p.m. We hope they mean a show with mini dogs, not regular-size dogs in a mini show. Either way, though, it sounds awesome.
• “What It Takes To Be A Rodeo Performer” : Saturday, 9:30 a.m. Uh, amazing? We had no idea that county fairs also provided professional guidance.
• Hog calling contest: Saturday, 12 noon. Never seen it in person? Now's your chance.

On Sunday, you can get in for free before 9 a.m. if you bring a can of food for the needy. Also, if you were watching SportsCenter last night and saw the swimming pigs, they’re there, too. Robinson’s Racing and Swimming Pigs perform daily, and you can catch a USA Karate demonstration every day, too. Whew. Not to mention the carnival rides. General admission is $6, but for $20, you can get admission plus unlimited rides. Rodeos and demolition derbies cost extra.
