Time to Get One of Those Old NES Songs in Your Head

The Power Ups

If you miss the original NES and its synthetic tunes, hit up Double Door this Tuesday where you can see The Power Ups play high-energy rocked-out arrangements of theme music from early Arcade, Nintendo and Commodore 64 games. The band originally formed in August 2003 as a four-piece summer project and only intended to have one live performance. But the response from that Empty Bottle performance was so positive that they decided to solidify as a band and go on tour.

Right now Chicagoist is humming the Mario Bros. theme song and secretly wondering if The Power Ups' fans wear outfits like John Leguizamo and Bob Hoskins from the Super Mario Bros. movie wore. To find out for sure, head to the Double Door. Tickets are available for $8 at the box office (773-489-3160) or on Ticketmaster (extra fees apply).
