Northalsted Market Days

It's the freakin weekend, baby I'm about to have me some fun. Why is Chicagoist so excited for the weekend? Maybe it's because August just drags and drags, with no holidays and nothing in particular to rock out to. Bleeh. That's why we're so excited for Northalsted Market Days tomorrow and Sunday. Did you know that it's the longest-running two-day street fair in the Midwest? Yeah. It is.
Jump on the Red Line to Addison or the Brown Line to Belmont, and be ready for food, vendors, and three stages with live music. The Chicago Free Press, which has a huge pull-out section on the fest, calls the event "the gayest place on earth." The $6 admission is worth it for ROTC (Righteously Outrageous Twirling Corps) alone: Chicagoist saw ROTC perform about two years ago, and it was fucking unbelievably rad. No joke, we were grinning for like seven hours. ROTC performs Sunday at 4:30 on the Belmont Stage. Check out the schedule for the rest of the performers here.
While enjoying the variety of foods and beverages, don't forget to donate $1 (or more, uncle moneypants) to the proposed Center on Halsted. Scheduled to break ground later this year, the $20 million endeavor will be a multipurpose facility that will serve the GLBT community. The Center will offer a gym, resource library, performance space, meeting space, voicemail and mailbox services for smaller organizations, as well as a home for Horizons Community Services and their health services, GLBT helpline, Anti-Violence Project, and support programs.
