Chicagoist loves "free" so we were happy to hear about these three upcoming free events.

Big Band & Beyond
At 6:30 p.m. on Monday, August 30, three Chicago jazz favorites will unite for a free performance at the Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. Big Band & Beyond will feature vocalist Kurt Elling and the Chicago Jazz Orchestra will be joined by saxophonist Von Freeman in his first big band collaboration since 1946. They'll be playing Frank Sinata songs and other classic big band numbers along with new arrangements. The concert celebrates the opening of the 26th annual Chicago Jazz Fest.

Archer PrewittArcher Prewitt at the Cultural Center
Archer Prewitt, of the band Sea & Cake, will be rocking a free concert at the Chicago Cultural Center on September 1. The show is part of an exhibition at the Center called "Raw, Boiled & Cooked: Comics on the Verge" and was inspired by Raw, the 80s magazine.

Victory Gardens Season Preview Night
Also on September 1, Victory Gardens is having a Season Preview Night that will give a free sneak peek at the company's upcoming season. Actors will perform scenes from three upcoming plays: The Family Gold, Hanging Fire, and Shoes. Afterwards, stick around and you can mingle with the actors, eat some cheese and drink some wine.
