Tootsie Roll Gets Dubble Bubble

Chicago-based Tootsie Roll is buying Concord Confections (of Canada) for just under $200 million cash. Concord is best known for making Dubble Bubble. Maybe it's just us, but Dubble Bubble was always THE LAST thing that we ate out of our Halloween loot. It's always like a hard stone in your mouth and then when you finally get it softened down enough to chew, the flavor lasts for a thrilling 2 seconds. Whee!
So what's next? Maybe the Dubble Bubble Tootsie Pop? It probably wouldn't be that bad, since the gum in the center of a Tootsie Pop is kind of crap anyway. Chicagoist has tried about 50,000 times to see how many licks it takes to get to the center but we're pretty impatient and always end up biting the shit out of the thing. The best is chewing up the gum tootsie roll with the pieces of crunchy sucker in it.
If Chicagoist had to pick a favorite rock-hard crap gum, there is no topping Bazooka Joe. It holds the flavor a little longer and the comics are so best. Of course, last season's Real World in San Diego (zzzzzzzz) tainted our fond memories of Bazooka Joe. Bastards!
