Lyric Opera - Photo: http://www.lyricopera.org/In 1954 the Lyric Opera began with a production of Mozart's "Don Giovanni." So it's only appropriate that the company opened its 50th season on Saturday night by revisiting the tragicomic tale of Don Juan.

The Sun-Times is celebrating the Lyric's jubilee season with six stories on "Lyric at 50." The articles cover the success of the Lyric over the years, how it is looking both forward and back during this anniversary season, a roster of opera stars that have played at the Lyric, its long history of having women in charge, and the neighborhood of the Civic Opera House.

Don Giovanni runs now through October 22 at the Civic Opera House. Tickets range from $29 - $170 and more information on ordering them is available on the Lyric Opera's website.
