DMB Hopes To Settle With the State, Votes For Change

By Scott Smith in Arts & Entertainment on Oct 11, 2004 3:22PM

Now that the fall has arrived, it’s time to put away all those memories of summer fun like laying out on the beach, road tripping across America and cruising on the Chicago River before getting pooped on by the Dave Matthews Band.

If you read between the lines of this brief Chicago Tribune article, it’s obvious that DMB have finally owned up to their role in the incident and are trying to find the least legally Does this bear shit in the woods? Nope, just in the Chicago River. Photo courtesy of blender.com
entangling way out of it. The band is hoping to make a donation to further environmental education efforts in lieu of paying the steep $70,000 in fines sought in the complaint against them. Now that Lisa Madigan and the Illinois Attorney General’s office have gotten some good PR out of the deal, it seems as if the whole matter might be settled soon. Until the inevitable civil court proceedings, of course.

In the meantime, DMB will help close out the final night of the Vote For Change tour which sort of swung through Chicago this weekend, courtesy of a rocking John Mellencamp and a paltry three-song set by Babyface. The concert will be carried live from Washington, D.C. as part of the National Anthem: Inside the Vote For Change Tour special on the Sundance channel seen here on Comcast and RCN Cable at 5:30 PM. The show will also be broadcast over the Internet through RealPlayer’s Real Guide (look for the nifty “Vote For Change” guitar). Bruce Springsteen, R.E.M., Jurassic 5, and yes, Babyface will be among the artists performing.

Chicagoist can’t believe we were unable to work a Triumph the Insult Comic Dog reference into this story.
