He Kept It Classy

Everyone seems a bit disappointed with last night's debate in Springfield. Most reporters hoped Keyes would spit his usual fiery polemic, but instead he kept it classy (just like his photo at left, what a gentleman!) showing a definite shift in tone.
With Keyes trailing Obama in the polls by at least 30 points, it seems that the people of Illinois, for the most part, know who they're going to vote for and the undecided voters probably won't have much of an effect. So who can blame reporters? It really is a non-race and the only news that comes out is normally provided by Keyes.
The candidates discussed Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, prescription drugs, jobs, trade and of course abortion. Eric Zorn breaks it down quite well and you can read the debate transcript here. Just replace Keyes' name with Bush and Obama's with Kerry and you'll probably get a fairly accurate preview of what's coming tonight at the presidential debate on domestic issues.
We know who we're voting for, and we'd bet most of our readers do to, so we just hope that in the next two televised debates Keyes isn't afraid to be himself again. That way we can at least have a few more laughs before he moves back to Maryland.
