Gunfire On Bus? Check. Walgreens Explosion? Check. Chicagoist Panic? Check Check.

Somebody fired his gun on the 91 Austin bus this morning around 9 a.m. because he didn't want to pay the fare. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Police are investigating the incident, and the CTA has turned over the security tapes from the bus. Uh, holy shit? It's a jungle out there.

Also, a Walgreens blew up. Seriously, what the hell? Deep breaths...we're managing our anxiety issues. A Walgreens in Addison exploded yesterday at 12:47 p.m. While the cause of the explosion is still under investigation, it was probably related to the gas leak—a private construction company hit a 4-inch gas main behind the store about an hour before the explosion. Alert employees smelled gas and evacuated everyone from the premises. When the fire department came to check it out, they didn't detect high levels of gas, so the fact that the building blew up apparently surprised everyone. Weird weird. Three firefighters were hurt in the blast, but their injuries are minor.

Gah. Chicagoist is getting freaked. Good thing we never ride the bus or go to stores.
