A Great Dane DJs at Schuba's Tonight

The Teitur (pronounced tigh-tur) concert at Schuba’s tonight is sold out. This is a shame for you but good for Teitur as it means his blend of James Taylor-esque guitar, Paul Simon-like lyrics and Harry Nilsson wistfulness can’t be far away from reaching critical mass. Though his male singer-songwriter Image: teitur.com
contemporaries are John Mayer and Ben Harper, the Danish Teitur (nee Teitur Lassen) has more in common with old-schoolers Donovan or Cat Stevens. Chicagoist first became aware of Teitur (say it loud and there's music playing say it soft and it's almost like praying) when we were randomly accosted by some girl in the Borders on State who claimed the album Poetry and Aeroplanes to be fantastic before she selfishly scooped up the last copy they had. And comparisons aside, she was right.

All of this prose is a bit like putting a really great meal in front of a hungry person and then yanking it away before yelling “Psych!” But there are some great leftovers to be had as Teitur will be a part of Schuba’s’ DJs Upstairs series tonight at 9 PM after the show. In this monthly series, Schuba’s hosts local and national DJs to spin some their favorite tunes for the masses. It’s a free gathering and also boasts Chicago's own Aware Records DJs Fancypants, Guilty Pleasure and Soundspam.

Two more acts of note this weekend: The Cramps play the Vic at 9 PM tomorrow and The Brian Jonestown Massacre will be doing a in-store at Tower on Clark around 4 PM Saturday before their show at The Bottom Lounge that evening. Perhaps lead singer Anton Newcombe will further expound on his appearance in the movie DIG!
