This Wednesday night, nine Individuals and three organizations will be inducted into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame, the world's only known municipally-sponsored hall of fame that honors members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) communities.
The Hall of Fame has been around since 1991 and was set up by the city's Commission on Human Relations' Advisory Council on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues. It gets continued support from the Chicago Commission on Human Relations and from Mayor Daley.
"It is important to acknowledge individual and group contributions made by Chicago's varied and diverse communities; contributions that foster community growth, pride and safety." said Mayor Richard M. Daley "It is for these reasons that we are pleased to recognize lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals and organizations with the Hall of Fame award each year."
Wednesday's induction ceremony takes place GAR Hall at the Chicago Cultural Center. Free and open to the public, the reception begins at 5:30pm and the program is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm.
