Fawell Also a Singular Sensation

Scott Fawell; Image: ABC 7. Obvs.Man, the press is having a field day with Scott Fawell. "Fawell tune: What he'll do for love" is the Trib's headline, and the Sun-Times weighs in with "Teary Fawell: I'm ratting out Ryan for love." Of course, Chicagoist has a serious case of Friday brain, and as we read the S-T headline we were like, "Hey, who's Teary Fawell? I wonder if he's related to Scott Fawell." Anyway, English language: what's up.

The disgraced Fawell appeared in court yesterday to testify on his fiancée's behalf in an attempt to reduce her sentence. Andrea Coutretsis, the object of Fawell's affection, pleaded guilty to guilty to mail fraud and perjury, and is trying to avoid jail time.

According to accounts, he did a bit of crying. He defended Coutrestis, who perjured herself to lie for Fawell, by saying she lied because "It was obvious the government put a noose around my head. …All she did was try to not tighten the noose." The government also has "a foot on [his] throat," so we'll take the bait: government? Quit being all up in Fawell's head/neck region.

Fawell's testimony revealed that he's still pretty bitter about his conviction and prison sentence—he said the "scales of justice were weighed heavily against" him and that "I'm a little hesitant at being a participant of what I consider a somewhat unfair, unbalanced system." Yeah, we'll take those complaints very seriously, Mr. Fawell, what with your stellar record of personal integrity and long history of promoting ethics in government. BTW, can you put us in touch with your brother Teary? He sounds cool.
