Wake up Mr. Daley; Photo:wiredlibrarian.comDaley addressed the City Council this morning and unveiled his 2005 budget. We called the Mayor's Press Office and a copy won't be available until sometime after 12 p.m. today on the Mayor's Office's homepage. Yesterday we promised to give you the skinny, but we're taking a half-day at work and won't have time to both wait for the copy to be posted and give it our usual critical and spellbinding analysis. That will have to wait until tomorrow. And that way you'll have read the Sun Times and the Tribune articles on the budget and we can just pick out the funny stuff.

One story was just posted and it looks like, as expected, all taxes except property taxes will be increased.

Via ABC7.com:

Mayor Daley called the $5 billion 2005 budget the most difficult of his career. On Tuesday, he introduced $50 million in new cuts—but held the line on property tax increases. The increases include:
-5.2-percent in sales tax (bringing the sales tax in Chicago to 9 percent)
-16-cent increase on cigarettes
-Liquor tax increase
-Amusement tax increase
-$1 increase on rental car fees

The sales tax increase will not be added to food or prescription drug purchases.
