Scott Pfiel Is A Dick And Makes Us Feel Like One Too

By Sam Bakken in News on Nov 22, 2004 8:30PM

Grub For GrampsBecause the elderly just are not shat upon enough in today's youth-obsessed culture, Scott Pfiel decided it was about time to hit Grams where it hurts. Right in the mouth. You know, where she puts the food delivered to her by the only human she sees all day from the city's meals on wheels program.

As Executive Director of The Chicago Fund, a non-profit that funds meals on wheels, Pfiel pilfered $93,000 from the organization using stolen identities and multiple credit cards. About a year ago, Joyce Gallagher of the Chicago Dept. Of Aging noticed the city was not receiving the amount of money they'd come to expect from the Chicago Fund for the program. Gallagher called the city inspector general about it and Pfiel promptly left for Indianapolis where he got a job as head of another non-profit. Seriously, whattadick! Pfiel is currently out on $75,000 bond and his next court date is December 10.

The Chicago Fund says their new board president Bill Kaplan has cleaned house and increased oversight to prevent theft in the future. They're pleading for donations to make up for the $93,000 loss. Go to the meals on wheels web site for information on how to donate.

While Chicagoist does not steal from our grandparents, this story totally makes us feel guilty. So join us and call your grandmothers and grandfathers for chrissakes (or give 'em an extra-big hug on Thanksgiving)! They love you and are so pathetically alone (and almost dead). And just one phone call or hug buys you another whole year of little to no contact.
