skyway_WLS7.jpgIf you drive to Indiana a lot (like this Chicagoist), then for time immemorial, The Skyway has been the bane of your existence. It wasn't enough that you had to pay two dollars to get across, you also had to hassle with tons of traffic going there and back.

But now we can all do the happy dance, because Skyway Construction is almost done! Starting Wednesday afternoon, three lanes in each direction will be open, just in time for Chicagoist to make its trip East for Thanksgiving. We also thought it was funny that the project was named "Best of 2003" among Midwest transportation projects.

The Skyway, opened to traffic in 1959 by Mayor Daley The First, was big news last month when Mayor Daley The Second sold its operating rights to a Spanish-Australian Consortium for $1.8 billion over the next 99 years. In return, the consortium gained the right to raise the toll to four dollars. Yow.
