Maximus, the World's Largest Bottle of Wine, enough to hold over 173 standard bottles or 1,200 glasses of wine, can now be found in Northern New Jersey. The 340-pound bottle was created for Morton's here in Chicago and has been auctioned off for just under $56,000. If we had a Chicagoist party and invited all of you guys, how long do you think it'd take to polish that thing off?
Wine Ventures, a wine and chocolate shop, is the new owner of the 4 1/2 foot tall bottle of 2001 Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, which was sold in an auction of fine and rare wines Saturday at Sotheby's. Wastefully, they plan to put the bottle on display in their store. Drink it, you pussies!
Morton's had the bottle created to celebrate their 25th anniversary. It was certified as the world's largest by Guinness World Records. Morton's is donating their profit from the sale to Share Our Strength, one of the nation's leading hunger-fighting organizations. Ok, that's a noble thing to do .. but still.. road trip to NJ, let's drink the wine!
