Sing A-long Sound of Music? We Must Have Done Something Good

By Margaret Lyons in Arts & Entertainment on Nov 26, 2004 5:35PM

Oh man, Chicagoist is still drunkfull from yesterday. We're still experiencing the glow of our foodgasm, and we really just want to roll over and go to sleep. Hey, listen, stuffing: we don't want to cuddle. It's not that we don't like you a lot—we think we might even be falling in love with you—but we need our space. We're solitary sleepers, OK? But it was a great night, really special, and we really care about you. Oh stuffing, c'mon, don't be like that.

Cough.Back to business. What's going on this weekend, assuming our pants ever fit again and we can leave the house?

The hills are alive... image: USA TodaySing A-long Sound of Music We've been gearing up for this since September when we went to Sing A-long Wizard of Oz, which, for the record, ruled in so very many ways. There are only three shows—today, Saturday, and Sunday, each at 2 p.m.—so get your butt in gear. There are prizes for the best costume (think creatively—go as one of Maria's "favorite things" or as re, a drop of golden Sun) but it's OK to come as you are. All the songs are subtitled, and you'll get a goodie bag to help you play along (hissing at Nazis, waving edelweiss, poppers for when Captain Von Trapp and Maria finally smooch, etc.).

We love this song *so much.*Image: www.sunnycorner.comWe are especially excited for the subtitled goatherd song, which played in our head every time somebody mentioned Barack Obama's dad. You know, cause he was a goatherd. Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo.

You can buy advance tickets online, or regular tickets in person at Music Box starting at noon the day of. They're $15, but seriously, so worth it to be able to sing, in a group, about being 16 going on 17 and all you want to do is get freaky with your Nazi boyfriend. So true to life.
