MJ Didn't Even Make Varsity as a Sophomore

Chicagoist remembers a time when this city had a pretty good basketball team. One that won a title, or six. And they were lead by this guy named Jordan. Michael Jordan, we believe.

Well, now it seems that Jordan's kids are beginning to star on the court as well. MJ's oldest son Jeff stars for Loyola Academy, playing varsity as a sophomore (that's him at the right w/ Dad during a Bulls Championship rally). In perhaps the best known story about his youth, MJ didn't even make his high school's varsity team as a sophomore.

In his first varsity game, the 6'1" guard scored 23 points in a 78-69 victory over Barrington in the Mundelein holiday tournament. He followed that up with a 21 point performance as the Ramblers beat Mundelein 86-66. He only scored 4 points as Loyola won the tournament against Round Lake, but was named to the All-Tournament team.

And Jeff may not be the only Jordan on Loyola's basketball team next year. His younger brother Marcus, already 6'3" as an 8th grader may suit up along side his older brother next season. Imaging that -- two offspring of the greatest basketball player of all time on the same team. Now isn't that what every high school basketball coach's ultimate fantasy...
