Record High Bank Robberies This Year?

The number of bank robberies in the 5-county Chicago area is on pace to break a record for heists pulled off in a single year. The FBI said yesterday that there have been 165 bank robberies in the area - 14 more than last year. And we only need 31 more to break the record set in 1995.
The reason for all the robberies this year? An FBI spokesman says that they just don't have the resources to investigate bank robberies like they used to.. what, with all the money and people being used to fight off the terrorists, n'all. They're saying that they need the public's help to make up the difference. We say to the FBI - "Hire more people!" Chicagoist doesn't investigate crimes for free! And to you, our reader, we say "Go rob a bank while no one's lookin! Or an Abercrombie & Fitch, at least!"
