If Margaret were here she'd be all over this, Weather Nerd that she is! Skilling is predicting that by the end of this week we're going to have the coldest daytime December temperature in 15 years. Which will most likely lead to the 2nd coldest Christmas Ever daytime high on record since 1870.

The predicted temp for Friday? TWO DEGREES. TWO! 2! Holy Crap. The coldest ever was in 1983 when the daytime high was -11.. that's the coldest we have on the books. The second coldest was in 1972 when it was 5 degrees. So Friday, make sure to bundle up in your holiday sweater (funniest trib feature ever!).

If you want in on the freezing action, Spudart is having a contest. Guess the high temp on Christmas Eve (by O'Hare's reading) and Matt will buy you a gift at the dollar store and ship it to you! Yay! Chicagoist will be in WI where it's totally bound to be even COLDER, but we guess 6 degrees. Just enough not to break the record and come in 3rd overall. Just a feeling we have. About the title of this post and the Trib headline: We know "2d" is correct AP style but honestly we read this and thought "That says tude." And the Trib must have some sort of stylebook tug-of-war going on because the print version totally says "2nd".
