Don't Shoot Guns on New Year's. .. . or Ever!

Does anyone else find this a bit odd? All over the news we're hearing that the police and community activists are asking us not to shoot guns in the air to celebrate the new year. And that anyone caught with a gun on New Year's Eve will be charged with a felony. And that bullets that are shot up into the air often come down with deadly consequences. All we keep thinking is "uh, how about no guns.. ever.. and bullets that go up always come down.. every day.. not just on New Year's."
But we guess they're just talking a lot about it because last year there were 662 calls about shots fired on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. That's a lot of follow-up work to be doing whle also trying to bust people for drunk driving and being disorderly and stuff like that. Being a cop on New Year's must suck ass.
If you gotta gun and you know you won't be able to resist shooting it in celebration tomorrow, you can turn it in to the Little Village Violence Prevention Collaborative. They're having a "gun turn-in". Guns can be dropped off tomorrow at Epiphany Parish, 2524 S. Keeler, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and St. Agnes Church, 2651 S. Central Park, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The only gun you should be caught with tomorrow is this hand gun from Peachey Keene clown props!
