Suspected Wrigleyville Rapist Captured

By Rachelle Bowden in News on Jan 3, 2005 1:17PM

2005_12_wrigleyville_rapist.jpgA 24-year-old Chicago man has been arrested and charged with rape and aggrevated assault in two seperate incidents on the North Side last month. Paul Cruikshank was charged on Sunday for his alleged involvement with the attacks on December 18th and 20th.

Seems Cruikshank was arrested for an "incident" in Forest Park and it was then that he admitted to the rape, the attemped rape, and another crime in Forest Park. Analysis of DNA is still pending and police aren't saying much more but have scheduled a news conference today.

But don't let your guard down, ladies. There was a 3rd attack of a woman on December 19th that is not connected to the other cases. Police are still on the lookout for the scumbag who attacked a woman, forced her into her apartment, tied her up and raped her.

Also, police are trying to figure out if a rape in Uptown on Friday is related to any of the other rapes. A man grabbed a woman from behind and dragged her from Sheridan Rd to Sunnyside Ave and sexually assaulted her.

What really frightens Chicagoist is that the recent rapes all happened when the victim was either walking home or entering her apartment. And what could be more horrible than being raped in your own home? Even though we should always be, Chicagoist has been extra alert and aware of the people walking around us on the street and especially when we're turning to go into our apartment. womenshealth.org has some good tips on what should be done if you are in immediate danger of being raped - scream, run, fight, say you have an STD, puke, urinate - read more here.
