Barack Obama Sworn-In; Media Hoopla Continues

By vouchey in News on Jan 4, 2005 6:46PM

barack.jpgWhen travelling in other states, it can be shocking for Illinois residents to open a newspaper and find no mention of Senator Barack Obama! But the Chicago media is doing its best to track his every movement, and thankfully Senator-Elect Obama will be sworn-in as Senator Obama today in Washington, D.C.

Chicagoist expects only a couple more weeks for the media honeymoon, as the anticipation of greatness meets with the experience of ordinariness. Even the greatest figures in government made plenty of people mad during their time (Lincoln? Truman? JFK? Both Roosevelts?), and it usually took a few years of rehabilitation after they left government before people thought of them as "great". While Chicagoist is proud that Illinois is the first state to elect a black senator since Reconstruction, other than win an election, Sen. Obama hasn't done anything yet.

We look forward to great things, but for now, please stop the gushy articles and the Obama for President junk!
