Jim Breuer's Fave New Venue? Suburban Chicago Factories

By Sam Bakken in News on Jan 4, 2005 10:15PM

1_2005_jbreuer.jpgA Muslim American, Syed Abbas, filed suit Monday against AFI Industries Inc claiming he was fired because he complained about harassment on the job. Abbas worked at an AFI factory in suburban Chicago for nine years and was fired in March 2003.

In the suit Abbas alleges co-workers repeatedly called him a terrorist and asked him about his "cousin" Osama Bin Laden. The suit also alleges that one supervisor drew a caricature of Abbas and labeled it a wanted poster. Abbas says another supervisor told him the FBI and CIA were on his tail and that someone would break into his house and shoot him while the supervisor made a "hand"-gun gesture and fired imaginary rounds at him.

Abbas says he repeatedly complained about the harassment and because of the complaints a factory manager yelled at him in front of other employees. After the incident with the manager Abbas claims he received less overtime and more difficult work assignments and was ultimately fired. Abbas is seeking compensation for economic losses and emotional abuse.

Now as you may know Chicagoist isn't one to fret over humor boundaries. But the AFI workers' jokes are hackneyed, Jim Breuer-esque shit. In other words, too easy and disconcertingly void of humor. So if Abbas' allegations are true, not cool dipshits. Not cool.
