Documenting the Sun-Times Building Destruction

By Rachelle Bowden in News on Jan 13, 2005 6:51PM

2005_01_suntimes_demo.jpgChicagoist is totally obsessed with the demolition of the Sun-Times building. There's just something about walking past it everyday and gradually seeing an entire huge building start to come down before our very eyes. Which is why our newest non-sexual crushes are on a couple guys (who happen to work in a great big black building designed by Mies van der Rohe) who have been updating us with some really great photos of the demolition progress. We're so envious of the view they have of the destruction. Actually, they'll probably have a really great view of the lake after the destruction and before The Donald's tower gets built.

A couple weeks ago John sent us these photos that he took of the actual Sun-Times sign coming down. This seemed to have some real significance.. like it made it finally real and that things were only going to get worse after that. Then yesterday we wet our pants (just a little bit) when Felix let us know about this time lapse video that his friend Jeff, who works in the same building, has been making. Basically he and John have been taking snapshots every 10 minutes since the destruction started and stringing them together to make a video flipbook documentary of the demolition. So awesome. Check it out here or here.
