Our friends at Chicago Magazine brought us news this morning of two restaurant closings when its Dish column revealed that Eli's The Place For Steak is closing in July. 2005_02_elischeesecake.jpg

A Chicago institution -- if not for their steaks, then most certainly for their cheesecakes -- the Streeterville spot at 215 E. Chicago Ave. where it has called home for the past 39 years is being torn down by Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

According to Chicago Mag, "Turns out that Northwestern Memorial Hospital, as part of its campus expansion, is tearing down the Galter Carriage House, which has housed the throwback celeb magnet since 1966. "We're obviously saddened that we have to close," says Marc Schulman, the second-generation owner. "But Eli's Cheesecake is not going away."

Eli's is looking to relocate in the same neighborhood.

In other restaurant closings, Michael Kornick's suburban venture, MK North, 305 S. Happ Rd., Northfield, is shutting its doors on February 20 and reopening as A Milano Italian Grill on March 1.
