More Chips For Your Hips

By John & Susie Pratt in Food on Feb 16, 2005 5:22PM

So we all know Chicago is up there on the ol’ obesity ranking, no? Stats tell us that the average Chicagoan is large and in charge and likes his potato chips home grown.

Good news for us fatties! Local manufacturer Jays Potato Chips is making another run at snack food giant jaysbag.bmp
Frito Lay by introducing three new flavors of its Crispy Ridged line of chips: Roasted Garlic and Parmesan, Jalapeno and Cheddar, and Garden Herb Ranch. But wait, there’s more, an article in today’s Tribune promises more Jays goodness to come including pretzels, tortilla chips, and our personal favorite, “a number of new spicy products.” Mmmm…spicy intrigue.

We don’t know about the rest of you, but these new flavors are kind of messing with our thinking about Jays. We are purists who like our lunch-bag size blue and white bags of plain, thin (non-ridged) Jays chips (that is except for Margaret who has a not-so-secret love for the Humpty-Dumpty Dill Pickle Chip).

But we also love an underdog, and in this David v. Goliath battle of the munchies, we are rooting for Jays to kick some Frito Lay ass. Thus, we will do our part to consume chips in a manner that should affect Jays’ bottom line. We encourage you to do the same.
