Alert!!! Sneed Got Date Wrong On Polar Plunge

By Sam Bakken in News on Feb 26, 2005 2:35AM

Polar BearNot to tread on Will and Kit's territory, but Michael Sneed made a mistake in today's column that could leave some Sneedlings all wet, and cold, for nothing.

In her column she reports:

Brrrrrr...
Police Supt. Phil Cline, whose success at lowering crime stats is being reported nationally, will take a polar plunge this weekend.

*Translation: Cline and fellow top cop, Cook County Sheriff Mike Sheahan, will plunge into the frozen waters of Lake Michigan Sunday at North Avenue Beach to raise funds for Chicago's Special Olympics.

Good goin', guys.

Wrrrrrongah! As stated in big red letters on the organization's website, the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Chicago is on Sunday, March 6, 2005 (the Daily Herald's Amy Mack was also wrong, but closer, reporting March 5)—not this weekend. We sent the Sneedster an e-mail.

Maybe this weekend's dive is a special promotion for next weekend's dunk with appearances by the top cops and Sneed. Ooooooo, Sneed in a bikini! Hottsie-tottsie! If it isn't, don't let us stop you from jumping in this Sunday anyway, but as far as we know you won't be raising any money for anyone. To register for NEXT Sunday's event, go here (registration is $125).
