Kidding. But if Chicagoist attempted to run up the John Hancock building's 97 flights we're pretty sure our heart would fail. We can barely run up a flight or two in the El on occassion.
Today a record 3,700 runners participated in Office Max's annual Hustle Up the Hancock, a race to raise $750,000 for lung disease research. The winner was Terry Purcell of New Berlin, who completed the 94-flight climb in a record time of 9 minutes and 45 seconds. .. that's less than 7 seconds per floor. Cindy Moll-Harris of Indianapolis placed first of the women, completing the task in just 11 minutes and 33 seconds.
The winners clocked very impressive times.. but let's get real. We imagined that most people would till be working at the climb like an hour later. And we were wrong. The average climber took only 26 minutes to climb up the 1,632 steps!
