Mauled Cat = $100,000 In Your Pocket?

Mary Ann Anzalone took her cat, Blackie, to Kragness Animal Hospital on the South Side and in that hospital Blackie was mauled by a big 'ol Rotweiler. Now a state appeals court has ruled that she can receive damages for the pain and suffering she has experienced.
But Mary Ann isn't seeking just a few bucks to ease the pain. What do you think it would take? Enough to get yourself a new cat? Enough for a gold necklace? How about enough to buy a car? Well, Mary Ann wants more. She wasnts $100,000. You see, Blackie wasn't just a cat. Mary Ann is unmarried and doesn't have kids and Blackie was like her baby. Blackie provided Mary Ann with "unconditional love and companionship." The Red Streak goes on to say:
Anzalone said she's "cried constantly following Blackie's violent death and continues to cry every time she thinks about it," adding she's "lost sleep" and has "recurring waking thoughts and nightmares in which she envisions Blackie, a four-paw de-clawed cat, ripped apart by a Rotweiller."
Chicagoist knows it's horrible to lose a pet, we've been there. We've had cats run away, get hit by cars, or just turn up dead. It's sad. But ONE-HUNDRED-GRAND sad?
