So Many Annoying Things—So Little Time

By Sam Bakken in Miscellaneous on Mar 16, 2005 7:18PM

3_2005_annoying.jpgSurely you've already read this New York Times article. Use bugmenot, mentioned in the article, to read it if you haven't already. It's today's number one most e-mailed article from the NYT.

Anyway, we read it and it was interesting, but really we felt sorry for the people who go such lengths to stick it to the man. It discusses a man who collects his junk mail, stuffs said mail into its reply envelopes along with sheets of heavy paper (and strips of sheet metal?) and sends it back, forcing the original sender to pay for excess postage. Another collects all of the magazine subscription cards from magazines he reads and sends them back to the magazine each month blank so they have to pay for postage and have no new subscription to show for it. Jesus guys. We want to say that's passive aggressive, but really it's borderline aggressive-aggressive.

It goes on to discuss cell-phone jammers and revenge on spammers. It also quotes individuals who order "small" even when medium is a restaurant's smallest size and others' frustration with Starbucks' "tall, grande and venti".

Thanks for standing up for something that matters! Shitty schools and cuts in public transportation? Water off a duck's back. But labeling 'small' as 'tall'? Fuck man! We cain't stands it!

And that's where Chicago is mentioned and this post is justified. The article mentions a "popular" T-shirt in Chicago (we've never seen one) that reads something like, "Lincoln Park: Tall, Grande, Venti" and then "Wicker Park: Small, Medium, Large."

We did a little research and traced the T-shirt to Letizia's Natural Desserts Bakery located at 2144 W. Division St. They have a sign in the coffee bar that displays the saying, and they also sell the T-shirts. Currently they're out of stock, but the woman who answered the phone said they will probably order more soon.

Update: "Fabio" tells us in the comments that the T-Shirts are in stock. We called to confirm (you never know who may be impersonating a bakery co-owner/operator/manager on a blog these days) and indeed they are. They cost $12.
