Big Break

Actually, two big breaks is more appropriate. The first big break is the one discovered in White Sox ace Mark Buehrle's foot. In a freak accident, Buehrle felt something pop while shagging fly balls in the outfield yesterday. An x-ray showed a hairline fracture and now Buehrle is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.
The second big break is the one that Sox rookie Brandon McCarthy should now get to break camp with the Sox rather than head to Charlotte. Likened to a "right-handed Mark Buehrle" by Phil Rogers in today's column, McCarthy has dominated spring training with a 3-0 record and a 0.59 ERA in 4 starts. In spite of those numbers, it looked like McCarthy was not going to crack a rotation that included Buehrle, Freddie Garcia, Orlando Hernandez, Jose Contreras and Jon Garland. But now it's looking like McCarthy will have a chance to do his Buehrle impression on the South Side come April.
