Having said that, Chicagoist recently discovered Jinx Titanic, a Chicago-based queer leather-daddy punk rock band (got it?), who plays their monthly show tonight at Cell Block. This is certainly something you wouldn't take your grandmother to on Good Friday. (Bring grandma by the Chicagoist Happy Hour then ditch her and head on over to see Jinx play.)
The band, comprised of their cigar-smoking lead and four other guys, has been called " ...perverse, sick, raucous, titillating, and above all, loud." Having listened to their music on iTunes, we can only imagine that their live performances aren't like Easter Mass.
Under a former name Chicagoist isn't going to print, Jinx Titanic has already released two albums, with such tracks as "If You' re Such A Man, Why Do You Take It Like A Woman?," "Everybody Loves A Muscle Boi," and "Homo Go Home." According to the band, their upcoming album, "Ass Mechanic," is influenced by 60's pop.
ChicagoPride.com says Jinx wants to expose the world to those types of gay people one might not see on Queer Eye: "the kind with body hair, the kind that have smart things to say, and the kind with big asses."
Tonight's show "A Really Good F'ing Friday!" at Cell Block (3702 N. Halsted) starts at 9 p.m. and features special guests Bang! Bang! and The Countdown.
