Free Stuff and Power Chords From Brendan Benson

By Scott Smith in Arts & Entertainment on Apr 8, 2005 11:57AM

So imagine you’re a rock guy. You’re born in Detroit (and have been 2005_04_08_benson.jpgknown to hang out with Jack White) so you’ve got a quality rock pedigree but you’ve also been spending a lot of time in Berkeley, CA so you’ve got that pop stuff going from all those flowers in your hair. You’ve opened for Keane so you’re riding a nice buzz but you’re a little concerned about keeping your rocker cred. So what do you do? How about a concert sponsored by The Crutch and WOXY.com? Yeah, that oughta do it.

We speak of Brendan Benson who headlines a show with The Stands and Charlie Mars at the Abbey Pub tonight at 9 PM. He’s on his third album The Alternative To Love, on V2 Records. But delicious power chords and pogo-worthy beats are no match for the intricacies of record label contracts. Free from those shackles, he comes to town this evening with back-with-a-vengeance rock magazine The Crutch’s stamp of approval.

If you’re still all “Brendan who” then plunk down $15 for tonight’s show or put your info in the boxes below to enter to win a copy of Brendan Benson’s full-length LP, the “Spit It Out” CD single (with 2 unreleased tracks) and some other goodies. The winner will be notified on Monday the 11th and all prizes will be awarded by V2 Records.
