The Green Guide, an independent media service centered on all things environmental, has named Chicago one of the 10 "greenest" cities in the U.S.! Chicago was one of only two major urban centers to make the top 10 (San Francisco was the other), and was specifically commended for:

-Mayor Daley's 2000 Historic Chicago Bungalow Initiative, aimed at preserving and restoring Chicago's 8,000+ classic bungalow residences.

-The city's "impressive" agreement to buy 20 percent of its electrical supply from wind, solar and other renewable energy sources by next year.

Chicagoist has always been a big fan of the city's "Green Rooftop" initiative, through which energy costs are reduced by planting urban gardens atop buildings such as City Hall and the loop's MDA City Apartments.

These initiatives and kudos aside, King Richard isn't content to merely be in the top 10. Stay tuned as he continues to realize his plan for making Chicago the most environmentally friendly city in America...
