Comcast Might Refund You, Maybe

Comcast is offering up the possibility of refunding customers who lost high-speed internet service due to technical glitches over a two-week period earlier this month. While they aren't saying whether or not they'll really give you your money back, they are suggesting you call to lodge a complaint, (888) 266-2278.

The problems got started during maintenance on Comcast's Domain Name Servers (DNS). At least hundreds of thousands of customers attempting to web browse were stymied by their computers' inability to resolve domain names to IP addresses (like resolving www.chicagoist.com to 67.15.58.17, the "real" location of the website). Mail worked -- but painfully slow for customers.

Our sister site, Seattlest, noticed many of the same problems with Comcast service, but at least one of their hometown papers wrote about it. Chicago's media ignored the problem until it was resolved. What's up with that?
