Ouch! Nomar Out 2 - 3 Months with Torn Groin
Chicagoist hopes newly retired Mia wasn't planning to start a family in the next year or so... The Cubs' victory over the Cards last night was overshadowed by Nomar Garciaparra's injured left groin
. Leaving the batters' box, he collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. Placed on the 15-Day DL this morning, an MRI showed that the groin was torn and may require surgery. Best case scenario has Nomar returning to the lineup in 2-3 months, while operating on it may cost him the season. That decision will be made in about 10 days.
This injury leaves the Cubs without both opening day keystone players -- Todd Walker is out until June with a bum knee. For the next couple months, the Cubs will be making do with Neifi Perez at short and Jerry Hairston at second base. It's starting to look like he Cubs might be in for another long season...
