Pili Pili Bites The Dust

2005_04_pilis.gifAhhhh. The restaurant business. For as glamorous and sexy as some would lead you to believe, owning and operating a restaurant -- be it upscale or quick-service -- is unquestionably one of the toughest professions there is.

Even amazing critical reviews can't keep you in business, and you'd think that the sort of acclaim River North's Pili Pili received since it opened two years ago that they'd be safe from closing so soon after.

But not so. Chicago Magazine reports that Pili Pili, whose food was Provence-inspired with Mediterranean influences, is no more. April 16 was its last day, and according to the article, its owner Jack Weiss says, "... perhaps the concept was too esoteric. It just didn’t stick."

Which is too bad. Chicagoist was a fan. It makes our hearts break just a little when think of all of the truly shitty restaurants out there that continue to attract an audience.
