Coldplay Gets Intimate With You, Your Cell Phone

Eschewing the loud and cavernous arenas in the Chicago area, Coldplay will return to the city on May 6th for a show at Metro. Tickets go on sale this Saturday at noon at the Metro box office (next door at Hi-Fi Records) and through Ticketmaster (only two tickets per person). Pre-sale tickets are available to members of the band’s official website.
The high demand, low supply club gigs are designed to build a buzz for their next album X + Y to be released on June 6th. The band has scheduled gigs in similarly-sized venues in Toronto and San Francisco before playing Coachella on May 30th with a European tour to follow.
If you can’t catch Coldplay at Metro, why not download them to your phone? The Trib picks up a Los Angeles Daily News story about Coldplay’s newest single “Speed of Sound” being released as a downloadable ringtone. Since the tune will be available as a master recording, it will actually sound like the song rather than the Casio keyboard you had when you were 12. Chicagoist prefers to use the theme from Halloween on our phone (so we can freak out the people who are crowding us on the El) so we’ll probably just download it from iTunes instead along with the rest of the known world.
